Parlour Song, Jez Butterworth's sell-out production directed by Ian Rickson, which opened at the Almeida Theatre earlier this year with a cast comprising Amanda Drew, Andrew Lincoln and Toby Jones, is now available to download exclusively at www.digitaltheatre.com for £8.99
"A blissfully funny new play... Ian Rickson directs an almost flawless production... the wonderful Toby Jones hits comic sublimity...Amanda Drew`s Joy is both coolly sexy and cruelly spiteful, while Andrew Lincoln entertainingly reveals terminal dimness... a play that combines the comic, the erotic and the downright disconcerting with superb panache" - Daily Telegraph.
Parlour Song is a black, hilarious exploration of deceit, paranoia and murderous desire, as the spirit of the the Blues lands in leafy suburbia. It was captured live by Digital Theatre at The Almeida on the 5th May 2009.
"Digital Theatre`s exciting initiative promises to make theatre accessible and immediate. Capturing the alchemy of live performance is an enormous challenge. Digital Theatre set about it with a care and sensitivity that produces excellent results, and hopefully can open up the art form to ever increasing audiences." Ian Rickson, Director, Parlour Song.
Michael Attenborough, Artistic Director, Almeida Theatre, said: "The pleasure of working with Digital Theatre is that they are truly collaborative, it`s a proper artistic partnership from start to finish. In the past this kind of work has been vulnerable to artistic and financial abuse, but Digital Theatre are thankfully so open about their process that the results have already progressed and advanced. We are really looking forward to developing our partnership and exploring what promises to be a really exciting future."
The acclaimed Almeida production of Parlour Song is now available to download and keep for just £8.99.
