Almeida Theatre
The Almeida Theatre in Islington, London is a unique arena for public performance.
- Overview
The Almeida Theatre in Islington, London is a unique arena for public performance. It is distinctive as a "found" space and has lent a unique quality to each of the forms it has taken; as literary institute, music hall, Salvation Army Citadel and, since 1980 as a 325-seat theatre that combines the intimate and the epic.
A local theatre with an international reputation, under Artistic Director Michael Attenborough the heart of the Almeida's artistic vision is the presentation of bold and adventurous play choices staged to the highest possible standards. From classics of the British, American and Irish repertoire to foreign masterpieces in newly commissioned versions and new plays each Almeida production seeks to reveal plays in a new light.
