by Abi Morgan
Created by Frantic Assembly, Lovesong is a haunting and beautiful tale of past and present lives, intertwining and colliding.
That is the story of our beginning. And this is the story of… the end.
Lovesong intertwines a couple in their 20s with the same man and woman a lifetime later. Their past and present selves collide in this haunting and beautiful tale of togetherness. All relationships have their ups and downs; the optimism of youth becomes the wisdom of experience.
Love is a leap of faith.
Written by the critically acclaimed Abi Morgan, whose film and television credits include The Iron Lady, Shame, Birdsong and the Golden Globe award-nominated television series, The Hour.
Frantic Assembly and Drum Theatre Plymouth in association with Chichester Festival Theatre. Supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
The Drum Theatre produces and presents new plays. As part of the Theatre Royal Plymouth they have built a national reputation for the quality of their programme and innovative work, winning the Peter Brook Empty Space Award in 2007. In addition to their own commissioned productions, they sometimes collaborate with other leading companies, including, most recently, Told by an Idiot, Paines Plough, the Royal Court Theatre, ATC and the Belgian company, Ontroerend Goed.
Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett's production is often deeply moving... Superbly eloquent choreography.
Lovesong is compelling, understated perfection.
Only the hard of heart will remain completely unmoved.
Like love itself, Lovesong can take your breath away.
The piece beats with such profound truth you're held rapt.
Captured live at the Lyric Hammersmith, London, in February 2012 as part of a national tour.
