Nicholas Hytner’s Così fan tutte explores the complexity of relationships. A tale of double deceit between two young couples; the production delves deep into themes of sexual manipulation, love and forgiveness.

This beautiful production follows Mozart’s lead, taking direction from the conductor Iván Fischer and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

Vocally, all four are glorious: Pisaroni, especially, is unquestionably the finest Guglielmo to be heard in this country for some time.

The Guardian

The casting was spot on, and, as you might expect from practitioners as perceptive as Hytner and Fisher, the musical line as well as the words dictated much of the humour and heartache and anger.

The Independent

When you see something this distinguished, you not only realise what you are usually missing in operatic performances, but also have your faith in opera as one of the two or three supreme forms of creative endeavour reaffirmed.

The Spectator

It is easy to get carried away after a performance of this quality, but I had to search long and hard down memory lane to recall a così that so vividly revealed both the pleasure and the overwhelming pain of this evermore disturbing masterpiece.

Opera

The work’s darkness and ambiguity quickly revealed themselves not through trickery but by the simpler means of attentive delivery of text, and alert body language.

Evening Standard

[Hytner’s] staging, with delicate period designs by Vicki Mortimer and subtly lit by Paule Constable, is visually elegant and probes this most complex of comedies with intelligence and perception.

The Stage

Così fan tutte was staged and recorded live at Glyndebourne in 2006 and is part of the Glyndebourne Collection.
