Le nozze di Figaro
by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
This Glyndebourne classic makes a flamboyant comeback, set in the swinging sixties by Michael Grandage.
Le nozze di Figaro, the first opera to shown at Glyndebourne in 1934, is an audience favourite and shown here in a new staging by Michael Grandage.
We’re transported back to the swinging sixties, to follow the mischievous antics of masters and their servants and the complex web of relationships; brought to life by Christopher Oram’s delightful Moorish Palace.
Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
…this is a Figaro of rare grace, naturalness and charm.
The Daily Telegraph
Grandage’s otherwise traditional production is full of wonderful touches and his fluent timing, in harmony with Ticciati’s tightly coiled conducting of the OAE, maximises the tension.
some delectable work from the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Glyndebourne’s music director in waiting, Robin Ticciati, and a cast of some undeniable vocal distinction.
Christopher Oram’s designs were sober, elegant and ravishing
As the Countess, Sally Matthews is just perfection, physically and vocally.
Le nozze di Figaro was staged and recorded live at Glyndebourne in 2012 and is part of the Glyndebourne Collection.
