This critically acclaimed production was captured by Digital Theatre live at London’s Apollo Theatre. It was directed by Anthony Page and featured David Suchet as James and Laurie Metcalfe as Mary, both of whom were commended for their “glowing performances” by the Daily Telegraph."

The Container

The Container, by Clare Bayley, tells the story of a group of asylum seekers being smuggled across Europe inside a shipping container, seeking refuge in England. This production, revived following a sell-out run at the Edinburgh Festival, was captured by Digital Theatre live inside a real shipping container parked outside the Young Vic Theatre. With an audience of only 28, all locked inside the container in the dark with the actors, the production was directed by Tom Wright, and met with much critical acclaim.

King Lear

Captured live in Stratford-upon-Avon, this adaptation emphasised the pagan setting, complete with ritual chanting, and cast 24 local Midlands men in the roles of Lear’s followers.

The sequel to Arlene Hutton’s Last Train to Nibroc, this production was captured by Cinevative at the Rubicon Theatre Company in California. Lily Nicksay and Erik Odom reprise their roles in this gentle comedy, which gained Nicksay and Ovation Award for Best Actress, as Raleigh and May return home to their parents in Kentucky.

Salome

Steven Berkoff’s adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s lyrical drama tells the tale of the young Salome, who demands the head of an imprisoned prophet as a reward for dancing for her step-father Herod. Captured live at the Ginza Saison Theatre in Tokyo in 1992, this production stars Berkoff as Herod, the Tetrarch of Judea, who must decide whether to break his oath or give Salome everything she desires. Performed in slow-motion, this interpretation of the New Testament tale employs elements of mime and Kabuki to create a hypnotic, dream-like atmosphere. With a captivating ensemble dressed in monochrome, 1920s costume and a minimalist set design, Berkoff once again defies the conventions of naturalistic theatre with highly physical and stylised performances.

DV8 - Dead Dreams of Monochrome Men
